This page has several pictures of the house in Callender that I grew up in. I was there from the summer of 1968 to December 1984. It is a piece of my history. The pictures you see are taken of the house as it stands currently. There have been several alterations of the house since I left in 1984. I point those out. Also I give you my perspective of the house as it was when I lived there. This page is meant to remember my personal history of when I grew up. (Technically I have not grown up, but lets not get technical.)

The corner of Agnes Avenue
Back view of the house from the alley
This is a view of the corner of Agnes Avenue and Sargent Street. Yes, they have street signs in Callender, Iowa.
This is view of the house looking south from the alley. When I was a boy we did not have the garage you see on the right. The fence, tree and the wooden enclosure in the picture did not exist. I believe that the fence, the tree and enclosure were put in by its current owners. Where the tree stands now used to be an old garage that we used to store stuff in, have a fort in and of course the garden tools. This house was used at the turn of the century as an apartment house. We did remodeling inside including removing a wall. We found square nails in there. These were the type used to build this. Just beyond the window on the top left of the picture was a door to a wooden staircase. It existed when we moved in. We removed it at some point in time. I forget when.

A view looking East
A view looking north
This view shows the house looking from the West. The window in the top center of the picture looks into what was my room. You could easily see the horizon outside of Callender from there. I used to use a telescope borrowed from my stepbrother's father to look at the stars at sunset. I enjoyed doing that. Also in this picture in the lower right corner is a roofed enclosure that was not there when I lived there.
This is a view looking North. This shows the addition that was put on the house somewhere in my teenage years. We had a minor deck you see where the stairs are. Just to the right of that is apparently an addition that the current tenants put on. Also, the landscaping was not anything we did when I was there.

A larger view looking from the West
This is a view looking Northwest. That little enclosure to the right in the picture was not there. You may see the little raised part in the top center. That is where the aforementioned door and subsequent stairway existed. The window in the top left allowed us kids to get out on to the roof. It was kind of fun to be there except when to shingle the addition, which we did.
This is yet another view looking from the West. Not much more to add here.

Another view from the West
A view from the Northwest
This is a view looking Northeast. I took this picture to remind me of the amount of lawn I had to mow. Remember the garage did not exist. We had a garden there but the rest needed to be mowed. We had a tree house in the tree on the right.
This is a view from the Northwest. You see the "bee" tree in the foreground. Why we called it that, I do not know. I'm sure someone has an answer. We used to play football in the lawn in the foreground. This is what we called the "football field". I remember when I was little we got a lot of rain and this was flooded. It literally was a pond.

The football field
School to House view on Sargent Street
This is the "football field" that I wrote of. Yes we had to mow this as well.
This is a view of Sargent street looking at the house. You cannot see the house, but it is in the upper right hand corner of the picture. We walked this road with basketballs, baseball gear and footballs in hand. It was a journey that is quite memorable for me. To the left in the picture is the elementary school. Again, I walked this road to school for my first seven years of school (K-6).
